Jallikattu (2019) – India
Dir: Lijo Jose Pelissery

Jallikattu might be one of the really good films that you missed in 2019. Malayalam is an industry that’s famous for making films that are charming, visually appealing, close to lifestyle. (Examples: Premam, Bangalore Days, Charlie, Kumbalangi Nights..)

But looking at his previous works like Angamaly Diaries and Ea Ma Yau, we know that Lijo Jose Pelissery is a filmmaker who doesn’t like to go with the usual conventional methods, he always tries to go for new things. Jallikattu is another prime example of that.

Rejecting Malayalam’s traditional recipe, Jallikattu is a chaotic wild ride. Don’t watch this if you’re not in the mood for a fast-paced brutal thrilling experience. Jallikattu follows a simple story of a buffalo escapes in a village and the villagers are on a mission to find him.
While going with the main story, the director uses side plots to portray the human nature that’s covered by civilization and culture.

It has got a rating of 7.7/10 on IMDb and 3.6/5 from Letterboxd.
