The Lighthouse (2019) – Dir: Robert Eggers

The Lighthouse (2019)
Dir: Robert Eggers

The Lighthouse is the only film in this list that’s shot in Black and White, but not surprisingly. It perfectly builds the environment that the film needs, so do not watch it just because it’s black and white!

The Lighthouse is a very unique kind of psychological horror film directed by Robert Eggers. It’s his second film, the first was Witch (2015). It’s set in the 1890s, about two lighthouse keepers trying to maintain their sanity while living on an island alone.

Both leads, Robert Pattinson and William Dafoe deliver fantastic performances here, specially I’d like to mention Pattinson because he has evolved so much after we saw him in the movies like ‘Twilight’ and ‘Harry Potter’. This performance from him will make you so sure about his role in the next upcoming Batman film.

This film is rich with beautiful cinematography, plus sound design and editing. It was nominated for an Oscar award for Cinematography. Although it’s not pleasant and charming, it’s intense, gripping and sometimes even funny. The Lighthouse will take you to a whole other world, so get ready for an experience you’ve never had before!
